...(4) And it shall come to pass that in this Second stage when the illusions begin that he will see… And he will see the shroud prepared to clothe him….(5) And it will seem to him that he has been forgotten by his friends and relatives.

It is not possible to perfectly translate the names and attributes of Allah from their original Arabic into English. However, here are some fairly close explanations for Ul’Malik. The King, The Sovereign Lord, The One with the complete Dominion, the One Whose Dominion is clear from imperfection.
Al’Malik or Ul’ Malik is one of the 99 Names of God in the Qur’an
“He to Whom the kingdom of the heavens and the earth belongs.” (2:106).

As we enter the “Second Stage of Transit” we are beset with uncertainty.
2nd Stage of Transit
Mostly we do not know where to go. Why, because our regular compass is not available to us. The American Book of the Dead, and other literature has presented us with tools for discernment that might allow us to navigate in this uncertain new world.

The Psyche
“The ability of a being to survive in a conscious state from one lifetime to the next depends upon moving from one life to another in a formless form so simple that it can survive total ego-annihilation.” – Psyche and Essence – The Lost Works – page 95
We develop the psyche – the machine in sleep – to survive on this planet. At some point, through certain accidents, we sense a different form of the life process. We seek to live a life in the essence. As we seek a life of the New Essence, we see we must overcome first the dominance of the machine. This the process of awakening the machine. Once the will of the machine is pacified, then, it is possible to see the Essence. Then, the development of the Essence is possible. We then start to see that the Essence is shaped by a Body of Habits. These are the habits flowing from lifetime to lifetime. If we do no work on Self, then, those habits will carry forward to a next life to be repeated again.
Only when we interrupt this process is change possible. We create change by establishing a new body of habits. We do that by dying to the World and cultivating a path of Wonder. This is not easy. But, gradually, a new habit can be formed.
All phenomena is illusion.
Neither attracted nor repelled,
Not making any sudden moves –
My habits will carry me through.

This evening we will have Part IV of the presentation of the third book of the Dead called the book of Ul’Malik. We will be focusing on the inter-play between spirit and the Five Senses.

We digest the information about the Body of Habits, we start to understand how the ‘weave’ of the five senses follows us through our journey.
In Ul Malik, the voyager is at the second stage of exit and the five primary elements of consciousness are witnessed by the soul. The Five Spirits are perceived here as the five elements: Earth, Air, Water, Fire, and Ether. According to Vedic philosophy the entire universe and the human body is made out if these five elements, how we guide these elements in our lives, through practices determines the state during the living times as well as the intermediate state. The five elements return to the universe as we cremate the body, but the sanskar / memories do carry through as essence in the dead.
