In this chapter Gold begins to discuss with the readers the concept of personal atmospheres. He poses the topic of blending our work on the development of the Prayer Absolute into a methodology of developing and maintaining a higher form of personal atmosphere.

To begin he has an extensive discussion of various foods. Many of the specifics will be important to the reader. But, what is most important to our Work is to introduce into our daily routines a higher consciousness about food and all of our daily activity.

“Give us this day our daily Bread” we ask in the Lord’s Prayer. Thus, we must conceive of how to make each meal a meal arising as bread from the highest chambers.

The Chapter Summary

Chapter Thirteen – Thought for Food

“Water: 35 liters, Carbon: 20 kg, Ammonia: 4 liters, Lime: 1.5 kg, Phosphorus: 800 g, salt: 250g, saltpeter: 100g, Sulfur: 80g, Fluorine: 7.5 g, iron: 5.6 g, Silicon: 3g, and 15 other elements in small quantities…. that’s the total chemical makeup of the average adult body. Modern science knows all of this, but there has never been a single example of successful human transmutation. It’s like there’s some missing ingredient….. Scientists have been trying to find it for hundreds of years, pouring tons of money into research, and to this day they don’t have a theory. For that matter, the elements found in a human being is all junk that you can buy in any market with a child’s allowance. Humans are pretty cheaply made.”

When we ingest food it matches the level of our being as part of the process of becoming part of us.  As eating is a part of daily life attention to this aspect is a very powerful exercise.  If the body will be become an alchemical tool special attention should be paid to the food that will become a part of higher functions. What we eat becomes part of us and partakes of our own degree of consciousness it is a method of bringing the machine to life in connection with Prayer -Absolute.

Take note that the way you eat reflects the way you make love, look at your eating habits your habits will carry you through.  When you start to eat,  eat slowly with  full concentration and attention on the  sensation of eating, sensing and  feeling what the  food senses and feels  (turn off  TV and put away that book) bring  the food up to the mouth chewing and swallowing  should all reflect lovemaking, what we eat become part of us.

As we start, we can say mentally I hope I did not keep you waiting also a good practice to not stab the food with our fork.  The whole process of preparation and ingestion of food should reflect the laws of hospitality in the sense that our body is the house that is receiving something.

Not only is the type of food important but the way it is prepared and the setting in which it is prepared does have an effect on the food.  The way it is ingested is extremely vital also the kitchen must be free of all contaminates even negative emotion. Sounds in kitchen are as important as they are in the work chamber; the combination of food must make sense not just for taste and anesthetics but also chemically.

Another exercise for the ethics of eating is described in the book the joy of sacrifice (page 137):  At the beginning of each meal say:      “I wish to remember myself”

Before each mouthful say:  “I had nothing but myself with which to create the world; out of  myself the world was made.”

At the end of the chapter the methods used by the Python Priestesses are described in which inhalation of smoke and vegetable substances were used to invoke the spirit of divination.   The vapours created a trance like state from which the oracle would speak in tongues.   The body would become an alchemical instrument. These messages were transcribed and written down and then interpreted.   Carved into the Temple of Apollo were the following sayings “Know Thyself”, “Nothing in Excess” and “Make a pledge and mischief is nigh”.
